Living in the Moment This Thanksgiving

by | Nov 27, 2019

Have you ever found yourself in the middle of telling a story and you notice your friend staring at their phone, more interested in Twitter than what you have to say? For most of us, this is a common occurrence, and incidents like this contribute to some of our biggest complaints about technology. Often, we find it hard to live in the moment, and spend much of our free time perusing our phones.

However, we can all agree that the technological innovations of recent decades far outweigh the negatives. Technology can truly be a blessing when we need it, especially over the holidays. This Thanksgiving, let’s take a look at some technological advancements that can make this holiday season easier and can actually help us connect more with the ones we love.

Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate friends and family, but this does not always mean that you are able to celebrate with the ones that you love most. Whether it’s through FaceTime, Skype or a simple voice call, our phones allow us to communicate with our favorite people, some of whom we will be missing on this special day. Through technology, there are plenty of ways to send friends and family love on Thanksgiving.

Another way technology can help this Thanksgiving is through cooking and meal planning apps. There are plenty of meal planning lists and menu assistants that can help you properly prepare for the big day, while also keeping you on task and organized the day of. These apps allow you to enjoy socializing with friends and family without having to worry that you have forgotten something. If you’re hosting or have out of town guests, these apps can help relieve some of the pressure of the season.

Let’s say you’re in charge of cooking the turkey, and need to ensure it’s been cooked all the way through. Instead of constantly monitoring the turkey, your phone can once again step in and help. Using this smart Bluetooth thermometer, you will receive alerts through push notifications when your turkey reaches the set temperature. This is just one less thing that you need to pay attention to when you’re living in the moment with friends and family.

There was once a time when finding holiday deals meant bundling up on Thanksgiving evening to stand in line at the nearest Best Buy. Now we have our phones to thank for enabling us to get the latest deals without having to brave the elements. Whether it’s Black Friday deals on your phone or Cyber Monday purchases, technology makes finding the perfect discounted items easy and right at your fingertips. Instead of running off as soon as dinner is over, you can relax with loved ones on Thanksgiving.

Lastly, since it is the holidays, we should also focus on patience and selflessness. You probably have a family member who occasionally has issues with technology. Whether it’s difficulties taking a proper picture, or learning how to post something on social media, there are many ways that you can help family and friends who are unfamiliar with technology this holiday season.

This Thanksgiving, take the time to use technology for good and focus more on living in the moment with your favorite people. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Adaptigent!
