Offload 100% of web services workload

Organizations using mainframes are faced with a common challenge: how do you keep up with technology and reduce mainframe costs at the same time? Do more without spending more?

If you use Ivory with Linux on System z for your mainframe integration, then you can accomplish both goals. The Ivory Server for Linux on System z allows you to offload 100% of your web services workload – meaning that mainframe integration has zero impact on your general purpose processor (GPP). Instead, the workload is passed on to IFL specialty engines.

  • Reduce MIPS while still implementing web services
  • Lower mainframe upgrade costs
  • Continue to use your primary application server
  • Generate no additional code and deploy quickly

Using Ivory with Linux on z also enhances communications back to the GPP due to the availability of Hipersockets, which provide near memory speed within the zServer architecture for IP processing.

Two primary Linux distributions are available on Linux S390 or zLinux: Red Hat and Suse. The same packages you use on Intel are what you’ll be using on S390. Finally, because Linux on z runs on S390, it comes with all the necessary drivers to support connections to the mainframe.

Also, from Linux on z, you still have access to all of the powerful features of CICS such as transactional control, commit/rollback, and units of work. COMMAREA programs, Channel/Container applications, Link3270 transactions are run just like they are today from CICS.
