User-specific SQL queries can be defined with the Ivory Data Access administration application and stored as "Views". Using this technique, data from different sources - even a combination of mainframe and open-system data sources - can be joined and retrieved as if it was a logical table. End users do not need to know how the data is physically structured, where it resides, how many physical files are involved or what access method to use. They simply reference the View to get exactly the data required, wherever it's required - for example, in a spreadsheet - on demand. Using a View is as simple as selecting the view from the table list in your tool just like it was a physical table.
